Wablet
I received an e-mail from Wablet awhile ago announcing their Alpha release. Together with it is an invitational key which allows me to activate my account and be the first few people to try the application.

What is Wablet?

Wablet is a web-based communications platform that integrates caller ID to allow anyone to connect with anyone from a web page. Wablet makes websites LIVE & INTERACTIVE.

Wablet is like a Tagboard / Chatboard mostly seen at blogsites. They enable the readers and the author to talk or chat while they are both online.

Hey! I can see your Pass****

Update: They haven’t updated their site yet. Maybe i should shoot them an email…

Five minutes ago (yeah honest!), I visited Philippine Web Awards website to check the latest news and to vote as well. I was typing in my password when I realized that the input box for password is not set to password. Yeah That was cool! haha

Philippine Web Awards

Basically, the input type should be set to password so that others won’t see your password, they will only see those asterisks or dots.

Is it a big Issue? What if someone saw your password? What if you use one password for every account that you have?

Web is not just about the design, we also consider the security. I know that this is just a small issue but we don’t know what might and could happen.

To Modify or Start from Scratch?

I’ve been browsing wordpress themes for sometime now during my free time trying to look for my “ideal theme.” I know there are a lot of themes out there but I’m not satisfied even if its uber cool theme. I found out that there are some factors that we should consider in choosing our ideal theme.

  • 1. Purpose
  • First thing that comes to my mind when choosing a theme is “what is my purpose?” Am I going to use it for just a blog? What are the plug-ins and extras that I’m going to include there?

  • 2. Column
  • How many columns I want? Do I need 2, 3, or 4 columns? Yeah I also like that uber cool thing called bottom bar.

For bloggers who aren’t really a web designer, changing those themes would be very difficult. So choose what you really need. Other wordpress theme gives you an option whether you want your sidebar on the left or right so no more worries.

  • 3. Color
  • I really don’t consider the color at all because you can easily alter them but for those who don’t have enough knowledge in modifying a theme, then you should choose the right color for your blog.

Well I do find a lot of nice themes but again, I’m not satisfied because they aren’t made specifically for my blog. I want this and that but this theme doesn’t have that and it’s so complex I couldn’t even modify it. The last thing that I’m considering right now is to start from scratch. Yep, no more kubrick and hemingway themes to modify. I’ll create my own theme that would satisfy me and be my ideal theme but that would take time because of my thesis.

My question again is whether to modify a theme or start from scratch, what do you think?

Learning PHP

A few months ago, I had a little chat with khats(she’s a friend from high school) in YM. I forgot how we ended up talking about web stuff. What I still remember is that I volunteered to create their website. The reason why I volunteered is that I wanted to sharpen my skills in web designing and also it will be a good reference when I finish school.

I’m done with the interface but the back end is still in the process. I’ve used JSP several times for my school project and ASP.NET for my OJT project but I’m really a newbie in PHP. We had a project in my Modeling and Simulation class and we were asked to create an e-learning system, we used PHP but then I didn’t really cooperate well. Now, I’m stuck here downloading ebooks and learning PHP.
