During my stay in Riyadh, I often use Mobily’s 3g internet services. Though it’s kinda expensive, I still use it to check my mails and other stuff online. When I went back here in Manila, our myDestiny Cable internet was cut off so I have to try alternatives. One of the things I tried is using Globe’s Internet Services using my N73 phone with Globe prepaid sim. I set it up correctly using nokia’s settings wizard but when I tried using it, I always get this packet issues. I really don’t know what’s wrong with the set up or why is it not working. My question is that, is Globe’s 3g internet service really working?

I haven’t tried smart’s services yet but I do think that it is the real deal. I mean, if you are looking for an alternative say like you’re in a province or on the go, Smart is there and I’ve heard that it’s nice. Added that it’s internet service is relatively cheap(10pesos every 30 minutes).

Maybe some of you might be wondering why the hell Am i desperately in need of internet connection. Well, we are moving to dasmarinas cavite really soon. And I think the subdivision were we live is not supported by any ISPs so my alternative is using my phone and prepaid sim as my modem to connect through the intarwebs.

Anyhoo, do you guys know if there are any ISPs providing services in our Area, it’s in greenwoods subdivision dasmarinas cavite.

Thanks and Goodluck to me.

How to Setup Gmail Email in N73

I’ve been using Nokia N73 for almost a year already and when I came back here in Riyadh I was able to use its features. one of the features that I am really thankful of is the email and settings wizard. Setting up your N73 to receive and send emails is easy.

Go to Tools > Setting Wizard > E-mail > Choose your Country/Region and Operator (Mine is Saudi Arabia, and Mobily KSA Prepaid) > choose your email provider (we’re using gmail) > Outgoing mail Server (choose smtp.gmail.com) > type your complete email address (youremail@gmail.com), then your user name and password > then press Options and select Ok.

Once you’re done, go to Messaging and you should see a Gmail folder below My Folders. Congratulations You have just setup your gmail account in your N73 phone.

This actually applies to other N series nokia phones.

Before retrieving your messages, I suggest you modify your email settings. Go to Gmail folder then click options, choose email settings > Retrieval Settings > Email to Retrieve (choose headers only so only the sender and subject of the email will be retrieved) then press OK.

Retrieving your messages. Messaging > Gmail > Options > Connect. It will update your gmail inbox with the headers of the new messages. Remember that we choose headers only in retrieval settings so you have to mark every headers of the message that you want to retrieve. By choosing headers only, we were able to save data downloaded.

Prices vary from Operator. Here, based on my experience, 1mb of data transfered including upload(send) and download(receive) costs around 2 Riyals which is expensive compared to other Operators worldwide which offers per hour basis and sometimes unlimited browsing.
