Are you looking for cheap laptops?

People eServe in cooperation with Intel Philippines is launching a new brand of laptops as an alternative to branded units but at more affordable prices.

Aptly named “Vertex” because it is positioned to be the convergence of cutting edge technology and affordability, its Centrino laptops (see list below) are conveniently priced at P 49,990 and P 55,990.00 respectively VAT inclusive (please note, no O/S only PC DOS). An option for the O/S may be purchased separately.

Take note, those are Centrino laptops. I don’t know yet when it is going to be available but you can contact them through this:

People eServe Corporation
G/F Mapua IT Center
333 Sen. Gil Puyat Ave. Makati City
Telefax: 891-0742 / 0918 990 0597

Contacts:
Dan Francisco
Gilbert Suratos
Paul Magsino

This will be very interesting and let us see what will happen next. Maybe almost all students of Mapua, or every student in the Philippines, will have to carry this kind of laptop. What do you think?

Problem with JSP and MySql

What the f! I’ve been trying to connect my jsp program to mysql to retrieve some data but nothing happens.

Last night, I downloaded mysql connector/j, it’s a driver so you could use mysql in jsp. But the problem is how to configure it. There are a lot of tutorials in the web but sad to say they are a bit of old and most of them are not working. I follow the steps but there really is a problem. I don’t know what and that pisses me off.

Please please if you know how, it would be great help for me and my groupmates.

By the way, our project is to create an online faculty evaluation. It’s a web application and we will be using java server pages(JSP) and MySql for our database. I am the main programmer but yeah, I’m not expert with JSP and mysql. We used to use MS SQL server but It eats a lot of memory and it’s not free. MySql on the other hand is free and is easy to use but the problem is on connecting it to jsp or whatever that is.

Again, I need help! :)

High-Tech Schools

Got this from mapua makati yahoo groups. An interesting article from Gadgets Magazine.

There’s no denying the importance of technology in the field of education. With the proper programs in place and the right purpose behind them (not technology for technology’s sake), it can make everyone’s lives easier and simpler, and significantly aid the learning process. With the onset of a new academic year, we asked ourselves, “Have our schools gone hi-tech?”

Guess what? What? Mapua is one of them, yeah right! haha.

Living up to the school’s name, Mapua’s existing technological advancements are by far a cut above the rest. Mapua alumnus and Deputy Director of the Development Office for Information Technology (DO-IT) Reinier Viral revealed that most of its systems were developed and programmed in-house, testament to Mapua’s stature as one of the vanguards in the field of engineering. Its technological innovations are truly remarkable, making that of other colleges or universities, well, to put it bluntly, look like babies.

Oh yeah, It says that they visited four of the top academic schools in the country which includes University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, de La Salle University, and Mapua Institute of Technology.
